Lake Havasu City, Arizona
Lake Havasu Real Estate

Lake Havasu is situated on the Colorado River in Mohave County, Arizona.  Because of its magnificent, sunny climate, beautiful lake access and gorgeous desert area surrounding, Lake Havasu real estate has long been a popular destination for tourists from all over the world.  Lake Havasu City has also been a nice alternative to Florida for retirees, thanks in large part to its mild winters.  The relatively reasonable housing prices as well as the active outdoor lifestyle have created a boom in Lake Havasu's population in recent years that shows no sign of stopping anytime soon.

Lake Havasu City History
Lake Havasu real estate came into being when Robert McCulloch flew over the area to find a place to test out some of his new outboard motors he was manufacturing in the early 1960s.  The beauty of the area sparked his interest in building a real estate empire.  In 1963, he purchased what was, at that time, the largest tract of Arizona state land, 26 square miles of the desert, to create what would eventually become Lake Havasu City.

To entice buyers to the area, McCulloch created his own McCulloch International Airlines from 11 Lockheed Electras he purchased, built a hotel for them to stay in (Lake Havasu Hotel) and gave them their own personal guide to tour around Lake Havasu City real estate in a white Jeep.  None of this cost the potential buyers a dime.

Lake Havasu real estate gained international fame when Robert McCulloch decided to buy the London Bridge and have it transported, brick by painstaking brick, to Lake Havasu City to be reconstructed in its entirety in 1968.  This project took three years and almost $10 million to purchase, ship and reassemble to where it stands today.  McCulloch even made a channel under the bridge, creating The Island, to give the bridge more of a purpose.

Today, development has sprung up all around the city.  The vacation homes of yesterday have turned into permanent residences of many people who love the beautiful sunny weather year round.

Lake Havasu Education
Students residing in Lake Havasu attend public schools served by the Lake Havasu Unified School District consisting of six elementary schools, two middle schools and one high school.  There is also a development preschool program for children with special needs and an alternative high school called The Round Table Program that operate under LHUSD.  Additionally, there are two private schools occupying Lake Havasu real estate for residents to consider for their children: Bethany Christian School and Calvary Christian Academy and three charter schools available in the Lake Havasu school system.

Higher education is served by the Lake Havasu campus of Mohave Community College.  MCC offers to the public its library, bookstore and computer center.  MCC offers a variety of certifications and degrees and is very accommodating to its students on when they can take these classes: day or evening and online, multimedia or both.  They are also a nice, affordable alternative to higher priced universities and financial aid is available.

Things to See & Do in Lake Havasu
